FAQ

Questions, answered.

The things people ask most about pricing, privacy, and where this is headed.

Is Homestead OS free?
Yes. The field notebook — gardens, animals, tasks, inventory, harvests, and observations — is free to use today. Future add-ons like affordable sensors, and optional managed services, may be paid, but the core record-keeping stays free.
Who owns my data?
You do. Everything you record is yours. We don't sell your data or use it for advertising, and you can permanently delete your account and all of its data at any time from your settings.
Is my data private?
Yes. Your records are private to your account. There's no public community feed today, and if we add one later, contributing an observation to it will always be opt-in — never automatic.
Do I need any hardware to use it?
No. Everything works with what you type in. Sensors and cameras are an optional future upgrade for people who want to stop recording things like soil moisture by hand — not a requirement.
What can I track?
Map your property into zones, then log assets, tasks, inventory, plantings, harvests, and field observations — with a dashboard that surfaces what needs attention, like overdue tasks and low stock.
Is there a mobile app?
You can add Homestead OS to your phone's home screen for a full-screen, app-like experience that works from anywhere. A native app may follow later; for now the home-screen install covers the field-companion basics.
What's coming next?
AI insights that learn from your own records and flag what looks unusual, then affordable DIY sensors that feed live data into the same dashboard. See the Product page for the full roadmap.
